Cycling Merit Badge Ride #2

Location: Marine Drive, starting at the Troutdale Airport, heading in 5 miles and then back.
Date: July 15th, 2012

Today the weather started off a bit cool, thankfully we dressed in layers, because the sun came out and warmed up rather quickly. We met in the parking lot at 8:30am, and were on the road by 9am.

We had a couple new boys join in that were not able to make the first ride. Again, some kids came completely unprepared. One boy had a bike whose back tire had been ran over, and was completely warped. Sadly, we had to call his mom and have him picked up in the first few minutes of our ride.

The rest of the ride was uneventful. We took the bike trail along marine drive 5 miles in. I found out for my personal preference I would rather ride the road than the bike path. The bike path is full of bumps in the road from tree roots raising up the asphalt. Not fun on a road bike with no suspension. The boys preferred to stay on the path away from traffic. I was happy they chose what they are comfortable with, as this is new to them, and they should be riding where they are comfortable.

We left from the Troutdale Odot office connected onto marine drive, road marine drive in 5 miles and then came back. On the way back, we turned on to the Road leading to the Troutdale airport and came the back way in to the Odot office.
