Clackamas River, Estacada, Oregon
Distance: 10 miles
EG: 1796ft
Let me say this hike is a hidden gem. It was brand new to me, and I had never had any interest in doing it in the past because it just seemed to short, and easy. But, we needed a makeup hike, close in and fairly easy for this group of kids. So this was going to be the hike.
The first few miles were full of noise from the road, but it quickly got drowned out by the beauty of the "Narrows" so gorgeous! from then on it was gorgeous, then overgrown, then to probably the most stunning waterfall called Pups Falls. I have no idea how it got its name, because of its the furthest thing from a pup, this is a big dog falls! The hike into it was a bit treacherous, but nothing we couldn't handle.
One of my favorite moments of this hike was seeing my son want to climb this waterfall. That may seem like not much of anything to any outdoorsman, but my son is not a fan of hiking, yet he comes with just a little bit of complaining. He has fun with his buddies, but hiking is really not his thing. Sadly, I had to halt the climb due to safety issues and the young boys that were trying to follow him. It was sad because any other day I would've let him be adventurous. I guess we'll have to come back and do it again.
Overall the boys loved this hike, and some said they wanted to come back and backpack it. though I am not thrilled with the idea of backpacking next to the highway, I would be willing to do it with this bunch of kids.
